If you are reading this, it must mean Venus is retrograde and you are wondering what it means for you and your love life. When you hear retrograde, I’m sure the crazy chaos of Mercury retrograde comes to mind; visions of broken cell phones, miscommunication, and cancelled flights flashed your mind like a bad nightmare …”Oh God, please don’t let that happen to my love life!” Well, yes, no, sorta… let me explain.

What is Retrograde?

Retrograde occurs when a planet appears to move backwards from our viewpoint on earth. All planets go retrograde from time to time, Mercury just gets the most attention. During its retrograde, the planet isn’t moving forward and neither can the things in our life that the planet influences.  In the case of Mercury it’s communication and travel. With Venus it’s relationships and money. Retrograde literally means backwards. The last thing you want to do during a retrograde period is implementing anything new, making final decisions, or try to move things forward. The best thing to do during Venus Retrograde (or any retrograde for that matter) is to hit Rewind – revisit, rethink, refocus, or reexamine.

Venus rules love, beauty, and pleasure. The planet designate the qualities, characteristics, and experience that you find valuable. It also shows you give affection and how you treat the things and people you find valuable. Venus’ connection to value includes relationships, romance, money and beauty. Venus dictates the qualities you are attracted to in friends and lovers, your relationship with money, and your flare for fashion. In retrograde, Venus pulls our attention towards reexamining the things and people who are dear to our hearts.

You might find yourself reexamining your current romantic relationship to ensure your needs are being met. Is this person good for you for the long-run and are you both on the same page? If you are single or your relationship is shaky, Venus retrograde brings some much needed awareness around how your actions and choices have contributed to the current situation. This could be the wake-up call you need to fix things (heal, get counseling, have a heart to heart) or let it go for good.

Retrograde is not a good time to take a relationship or new romance to the next level. 

Keep things light and fun and if the person is still around in 6 weeks when Venus goes direct it’s a good indication that the relationship has potential. Beware, old lovers usually reappear during Venus retrograde, then disappear when Venus goes direct.  If they are still around a couple of weeks after retrograde is over then consider rekindling that old flame; the relationship may be more fulfilling this time. Most importantly, take things slowly. Remember the reasons why it didn’t work the first time. If those issues are still present then it probably won’t work this time either.

Venus retrograde might make your money a little funny.  

At best, your money remains stable to slightly stagnate; don’t count on any windfalls, new income opportunities, or a raise.  At worst, you end up bleeding money, over spending,  or the creditor calls to collect on old debts. If you try to launch a new source of income the return will most likely be low.  However, anything started before retrograde should be OK but payment may be slow or stalled.  The exception to this would be if an opportunity that you thought passed you by comes back to you. Technically, this isn’t a new opportunity, so things could work out well.

Don’t take risk during this time

Don’t take risk during this time, it’s best to take a conservative approach to money, business, and love. This is an excellent opportunity to reevaluate your business and financial plans. Maybe even solicit help from a professional to help you get a better return on your investments, uncover ways to diversify, and learn new opportunities to make your money go farther. Similarly, if you are considering putting it all on the line for love – don’t! This is equivalent to making a love decision when you are tipsy; you will regret it in the morning (when Venus goes direct).

You may have to work a little harder over the next 6 weeks to keep your cravings in check. 

Venus is the planet of sensual pleasure, in retrograde the planet influences us to indulge in things that make us feel good in the moment. Food, shopping, libations, trips to the spa, upgrading home decor, and buying nice gifts just feels like the right thing to do. Venus also craves attention and affection. If you are feeling lonely any company is better than no company when Venus is retrograde which could lead you into the arms of an Ex, randoms, and people who aren’t good for your spirit. Try not to get too carried away, you don’t want to break the bank, your belt, or your heart.
